Shops and boutiques

A proper counter, without the proper price.

A fixed till, a printer, a drawer and stock you can trust on a Saturday afternoon. Retail POS platforms charge somewhere north of eighty pounds a month for this. The hardware costs what it costs; the software is five pounds.

A day on this counter

What the job actually asks of a till, before anyone talks about features.

Open and close

Shift reports that reconcile the drawer against the card takings, so cashing up is arithmetic rather than archaeology.

Stock you can trust

One count across the till and the storeroom, decremented as you sell, with low-stock lists you can actually act on.

Staff on the floor

An account per person, permissions for refunds and discounts, and takings attributable by name.

Returns and exchanges

Full and partial refunds against the original sale, with our share of the fee returned to you too.

What a shop counter needs

A terminal with a printer in it, and a second reader for the times the queue reaches the door.

What it costs

Five pounds a month for the till software.

Retail POS pricing usually starts around £69 to £89 a month and charges again for the online store and the custom domain. We charge five, and price those as upgrades you can refuse.

Account

£5 / month

Per shop, not per register. Two tills and a stockroom laptop cost the same as one.

Per payment

0.4% + 1p

On top of Stripe’s rate, identical at the counter and online.

Hardware

Bought once

From £79 for a reader to £1,500 for the whole counter. No rental, no lease.

Stripe rates vary by country, card type and payment method. The 0.4% + 1p does not change, and neither does the £5.

The parts most shops do add

A shop with a window usually wants a website behind it, and the accounts done without re-typing.

Questions from this trade

Can I import my existing products?

From a spreadsheet, yes — names, prices, barcodes and stock levels. Scanning is quicker for anything already barcoded.

Does it handle variants?

Size and colour variants with their own barcodes and stock counts, which is the point for clothing and footwear.

What about a second register?

Add the device, sign in, done. The account fee does not change and both registers share stock and takings.

Will it run on Ethernet?

The S700 has a port. Worth using if your shop Wi-Fi drops at the back of the room.

Can I keep my current card machine?

If it is Stripe Terminal hardware on your account, usually. Otherwise the S700 replaces it and the fees get simpler.

One box, one afternoon, one till.

The shop kit arrives configured. Or start with an S700 and add the rest when you miss it.
