Fees

Stripe's rate, and 0.4% + 1p for us.

Two numbers, both written down. Stripe charges what Stripe charges and you can read it on your own Stripe statement. We add 0.4% and one penny per payment. That is the whole of what we take from a sale.

What comes off a £40 sale

Worked all the way through, with the account fee separated out because it is not a per-sale cost.

The sale

£40.00

One customer, one card, tapped at your counter.

To Stripe

Their rate

Charged directly by Stripe, at the rate published for your country and card type.

To us

£0.17

0.4% of £40 is 16p, plus one penny. That is our entire share of this sale.

Separately

£5 / month

The account fee. It does not change with how much you sell.

Our cut, at different basket sizes

The percentage is flat, so the cent matters most on small tickets. Here it is spelled out rather than averaged.

Stripe's own processing fee is charged on top of these figures and is not included in the effective rate column.

Why it is split

A blended rate hides who is taking what.

Most providers quote one number that covers the network, the processor and their own margin. It is simpler to print and impossible to audit. We show the two parts separately so you can check ours against your Stripe statement any month you feel like it.

Set by Stripe

Not by us

Country, card type and payment method decide it. We have no hand in that number and no share of it.

Set by us

0.4% + 1p

The same in person and on your own online orders. It does not rise with volume or fall with negotiation. Orders the Shoppi marketplace brings you carry its own commission, published on shoppi.app.

Never taken

Everything else

No PCI fee, no statement fee, no chargeback handling fee, no minimum monthly charge.

Stripe may apply additional fees for specific payment methods, currency conversion or disputes. Those are Stripe’s, published by Stripe, and visible in your dashboard.

The account fee

Five pounds a month, per account, billed monthly. It buys a supported account rather than a free tier subsidised somewhere else.

What it covers

The POS app on unlimited devices, your catalogue and stock, staff accounts, takings and shift reports, and the ability to get paid.

What it does not cover

The site builder, the catalogue importers and the delivery connectors. Those are Shoppi Cloud add-ons, bought once on top of a plan.

Why not free

Because a free account gets paid for in the transaction rate. We would rather charge five pounds and keep our cut at 0.4% and a penny.

See what the upgrades cost — each one is priced on its own and billed alongside the account.

Questions about fees

Do you take a cut of the hardware?

You buy the reader outright at the listed price. There is no financing, no rental and no markup applied later.

Does the rate improve if I sell more?

No, and it does not get worse either. 0.4% + 1p is the rate at every volume, which is why we can print it here.

What happens on a refund?

The customer gets the full amount back. Our 0.4% and the cent are returned to you as well.

What about chargebacks?

Disputes are handled through Stripe under Stripe’s terms. We do not add a handling fee on top.

Are online sales charged differently?

Our share is the same 0.4% + 1p. Stripe’s own rate for card-not-present payments is higher than for in-person, and that difference is theirs, not ours.

How do I check you are charging correctly?

Compare any month’s Shoppi invoice against the payment volume in your Stripe dashboard. The arithmetic is 0.4% of volume plus a penny per transaction.

Two numbers, no small print.

Buy a reader, add the account, and the only thing that varies is Stripe’s published rate.
